SPECIALIZING IN PERSONAL INJURY

DOG BITE AND ATTACKS

When injured as the result of a dog attack, there are some important things you must do and know.

First, you should know that you have the absolute right to recover compensation for your injuries provided that you did not provoke the dog and you that had a legal right to be where you were.

Second, you should know that if the dog owner has home-owners insurance, that his home- owners insurance will be responsible for this claim.

Third, you should now that the dog owner’s insurance company will try to allege that you were at fault for this accident by provoking the dog or that you were in a place where you had no right to be.

Finally, you should know that dog bite injuries typically involve long term and permanent injuries to your body that will require expert opinion testimony, typically from a plastic surgeon.

This is what you must do.

First, you should file a police report immediately.  The owner of the dog needs to be identified and the facts of the occurrence documented.  The dog should be checked by the authorities for licensing, up-to-date vaccinations and past history of attacks.

Second, you should obtain the names and addresses of all witnesses so that you will be able to prove exactly what and how it happened..

Third, you should seek medical treatment immediately.  It is important that all of your injuries are fully and completely documented.  There may be injuries sustained from a dog attack that will not be apparent to you at first, such as nerve trauma.  There will be scars that will not be visible for months later.  There will be other effects from the dog bite that will not manifest themselves for weeks or months later.  It is vitally important that you preserve your rights for full and fair compensation that all of your injuries be documented at the time of the accident.

Finally, you should retain an attorney immediately
